Secrets of Natural Beauty
by Kosa Ely
What is beauty?
Who is beautiful? Why do each of us desire
to be beautiful?
Many ancient cultures believed that nature
supplied all the ingredients people needed
to be healthy and beautiful, and that those
who remained in balance with nature were
beautiful.
For thousands of years women and men have
mixed and produced their own cosmetics from
the natural world around them—from fruits
and flowers, roots and minerals, seaweed and
clay—and mixed them with energetic waters.
Modern men and women have chosen to
manufacture their skin care products and
cosmetics instead. Having replaced many of
the natural ingredients with chemicals, we
now have a multi-billion dollar cosmetic
industry that is poisoning us. Did you know
that here in the U.S. the average person’s
morning routine puts them in contact with
over one hundred chemicals before breakfast?
As a society we feigned ignorance in the
past, believing our skin to be an
impenetrable armor. But our science now
tells us that our skin is doing a great job
at absorbing –eating– what we put on it.
That’s why more and more drug companies are
administering pharmaceuticals through skin
patches. The medicine from these patches
enters into your blood stream faster through
the skin than through oral ingestion.
After years of using chemically laden soaps,
ointments and cosmetics that strip our
skin’s natural moisture barrier and deaden
our cells, why are we surprised by
pre-mature wrinkles and crinkles and sagging
skin? As a society we then choose to pay
billions of dollars for medical treatments
and cosmetic surgeries for wrinkle-relief,
using procedures and chemicals that further
compromise our health.
It’s worth asking again: what is real
beauty? For those of us who desire to return
to the natural world of beauty, how do we
get there?
I propose we journey to the Rainforest. Deep
in the Amazon Rainforest you can find the
most nutrient-rich botanicals in the world:
thriving, vibrant plants growing in virgin
soil, fed by energetic rainfall and
sunshine.
Envision yourself in this lush rainforest
with a gentle falling rain. This rain is the
essence and life force of the rainforest.
Think of the rainforest soil, rich in
minerals and trace elements as the forest
continually recycles in a virtually closed
eco-system. Imagine over 200,000 species of
plants thriving in this tropical paradise.
What if you could capture the energetics and
the nutrients from the rain and the
rainforest botanicals, transport it here,
and utilize it for vibrant health and
natural beauty?
What if you
could have, once again, cosmetics from the
natural world —from fruits and flowers,
roots and minerals, seaweed and clay—mixed
with energetic waters, and feed this to your
skin?
I’d like to introduce you to Lluvia

Botanical Treasures for Skin
Many plants in the rainforest have
long been recognized for their
therapeutic health value. What the
indigenous people have known for
hundreds, or perhaps thousands of
years about health and beauty,
continues to be authenticated and
documented by our modern science.
The following rainforest botanicals
are known to assist in skin health
and rejuvenation. You will find all
of these and more in Lluvia’s™ skin
care products.
Una de Gato
(uncaria tomentosa) also
known as cats claw, is a vine that
grows up into the canopy of the
Rainforest. It contains a group of
oxindole alkaloids with proven
antioxidant properties. New research
shows it may be a powerful weapon
against visible signs of aging.
Researchers at the University of
Lund in Sweden discovered the herb
fights free radicals. Una de Gato
also contains glycosides that help
soothe and refresh the skin.
The Camu
Camu (myrciaria dubia)
berry produces the highest
concentrated source of naturally-
occuring vitamin C – thirty times
more than an orange – and ten times
as much iron, three times as much
niacin, twice as much riboflavin,
and fifty percent more phosphorus.
It is a significant source of
potassium, minerals and amino acids.
The vitamin C in the Camu Camu berry
is a potent antioxidant and free
radical scavenger. Camu Camu
promotes the development of healthy
collagen, stimulates tissue
regeneration and soothes blemished
skin. It also supports skin firmness
and elasticity.
Sangre de
Drago (croton lechieri)
called ‘blood of the dragon’, is an
Amazonian tree whose blood red sap
is used to support skin repair and
regeneration, as well as fight the
effects of aging. It contains up to
90% proanthocyandins (OPCs), a very
potent class of antioxidant
compounds. Studies of the tree’s sap
have shown the presence of taspines
whose unique nutrients stimulate the
migration of fibroblast cells
responsible for tissue regeneration.
Samambaia (polypodium
decumanum) The
rainforest fern Samambaia contains a
host of phyto- chemicals including
flavanoids, alkaloids, lipids,
calagualine, ecdysone, elaidic acid,
linoleic acid, linolenic acid,
melilotoside, oleic acid, rutin and
ricinoleic acid. Recent studies show
its benefits to skin. Samambaia’s
antioxidant compounds provide
protection from the environment,
reducing the appearance of aging
associated with exposure to the sun.
Passion
Flower Seed Oil (passiflora
incarnata) A
powerful source of bioflavanoids,
Passion Flower Seed Oil strengthens
tissue, promotes sebum regulation
and balances oil secretion. It is
rich in fatty acids including up to
77% linoleic fatty acid. This
beautiful plant contains a full
profile of potassium and vitamins A,
B and C, essential to healthy skin.
Buriti Oil
(mauritia flexuosa)
Buriti oil is the richest source
oil in beta caotene (higher than
carrot oil) and is rich in
carotenoids and pro-vitamin A. It is
an excellent source of oleic fatty
acids and has a full profile of
other essential fatty acids (EFAs).
These compounds support the
production of collagen and elastin
to make skin soft and supple. It has
emollient properties, is a
free-radical scavenger and protects
and soothes skin. |
